Units should consider best practices around content accessibility, including, for example, providing text in addition to images, or other similar concerns. Units and departments deploying Slack should be cognizant of feedback from disabled users and recognize that while the tool can be accessible, it also may not be fully equitable. It is important to note that while Slack can be accessible, it should be used in a manner to facilitate accessibility. In general, screen reader users may find that there is a learning curve to using the application the most challenging aspect comes in perfecting a strategy for navigating between the various user interface components. We recommend that screen reader users access Slack via Windows or iOS for the best experience, and if accessing via Windows, to use the desktop application instead of the web application.

Accessibility Summaryįrom an accessibility standpoint, Slack works fairly well compared to similar collaboration applications when using a screen reader on Windows and iOS the Mac screen reader user experience is comparatively poor. ? Huddle made me want to ping my teammates for quick chats.Slack is a collaboration-focused application available across many devices including (Mac OS, Windows, iOS, and Android) that can be used to communicate instantly with teams and individuals. Too often or not, I actually avoided contacting my colleagues because going into a Meets or Zoom call just felt too formal and a waste of time for a quick chat. It also removes this sense of awkwardness that comes from scheduling a conference call just so you can “ask your colleague what they think about the colour of a button”. Huddle seems to fill up this void of informal remote meetings where you could just “huddle” up with several colleagues and quickly discuss some ideas. Video conference calls suck! They’re definitely essential when it comes to remote work but I believe they should be reserved for more formal meetings. It’s been 20 mins… Your friend sends you a funny Reddit meme and you click on it and giggle away only to realize your camera is turned on and everyone else seems to be so serious, gazing away with sheer focus. It’s been 10 mins… You want to type something into Google but your custom mechanical keyboard makes too much sound, you can mute yourself but it’ll look a bit suspicious. With Slack’s new Huddle feature, Slack is here to claim its rightful throne among all the other work messaging apps.ĭon’t you just absolutely hate being in a Zoom call while waiting for everyone to connect and join in? So far, Slack at its core was an app that did none of that… until recently. ? Spotify made listening to music easy, accessible and cool. ??♂️ Balance made meditation interactive by bringing a personalised coach alive into your fingertips. ? Notion made writing notes and making to-do lists, beautiful, fun and productive.

The best apps we love aren’t groundbreaking pieces of technology but usually, the redefining of an idea so simple and overlooked to a platform that reimagines something as simple as note-taking. It got me whimsical of just wanting to dig deeper, rummaging through every corner of these apps to simply discover more of what it was hiding.Īs a developer, I get inspired when I stumble upon a well-designed app, intertwined with aesthetic & functional user interface and of course knit together with efficiently written code. Contrast this to when I first downloaded & used apps like Notion or Balance or Spotify, these apps made me excited.
